...shower of Leonids, similar to those of 1833 and 1866, is predicted for Thursday or Friday night. This is the last time they may be expected for thirty-three years, and ample preparations have been made at the Observatory to cover the entire field of the shower. Four cameras have been mounted on a platform moved by clockwork so that they will cover the same sixty degrees of the sky, throughout the entire shower. Six other instruments will be in use for determining the spectrum, magnitude and distance of the Leonids, and the radiant from which they come...

...recent change in the arrangement of the shower baths at the Gymnasium remedies what was hitherto a serious fault of the equipment. Formerly the hot water was led from a tank containing water at a boiling temperature, and mixed with water at the same pressure by adjustment at the valves connected with each shower. Caroless turning on of the hot water or increased flow of hot water, due to the shutting off of other valves in the shower-room, frequently led to unpleasant scalding accidents. An automatic temperature regulator has now been introduced which does not allow the water...

Wednesday night, for the second time, a watch was kept at the Observatory for the expected shower of Leonids, but only seventy-six meteors were counted, of which forty-three were Leonids, that is, had a path radiating from Leo. A watch was kept last night and will probably be kept tonight for the fourth and last time. However, it is hardly expected that there will be a shower, as the orbit of the Leonids is too far from the earth--about one and three quarters million miles. Moreover, the number of Leonids seen has decreased since 1898; less were...

Several astronomers have predicted a shower of Leonids for tonight or Thursday morning similar in magnitude to the great showers of 1833 and 1866. Last year, however, the expected shower was a disappointment and doubts are entertained by many as to the actual appearance of the Leonids this year. The preparations at the Observatory, though less extensive than those made last year, are sufficient to cover the entire field of the shower. Four cameras have been mounted together and others will be used separately if the Leonids appear. One or two other cameras will also be exposed at some favorable...
