...foot ball tournament ended yesterday. It was prevented from being finished last Tuesday by rain. The touroament has, in every way, been successful, for the appended scores show a marked increase, and it has had the desired effect of bringing out new men. The management is confident that there are many men who are capable of playing foot ball, but have never presented themselves as candidates. It is to be hoped that every man, who has ever played the game, or who is capable of doing so now, will come out next fall and try for the team...
...their visit to Philadelphia last Saturday, cannot fail to be gratifying to every Harvard undergraduate, and forges another link in the chain of goodwill which connects the two Universities. It is unfortunate that a return game cannot be played, as it would give the Cricket Club an opportunity to show their appreciation of the treatment accorded them. ...spring races of the Canoe club will be held this afternoon on the Charles river basin, the start and finish being off the Union boat house. We hope that the college will show some interest in these races. The Canoe club has in the last two years developed from a state of inaction into a large and energetic organization, one that is very popular in the University. ...annual reports presented at the annual meeting of the Harvard Union last evening show an encouraging progress in the society during the part year. The need of a debating society in the college is so well recognized that a blow which might have proved fatal to another organization produced but little effect upon the Union, and even this has almost entirely disappeared. The attendance showed a marked increase over last year, and the debates have been not always confined to the principal disputants, as often happened formerly, but shared with animation by the other members.
