Drugs have filled the Sicilian clans' coffers with billions of dollars and have been the focus of Sicilian gang wars that have killed at least 300 since 1981. They testified in December in New York City at the so- called pizza-connection trial, where 22 defendants are charged with distributing Sicilian heroin through a chain of U.S. pizza outlets.
