...having the wrong conversation altogether. The problem isn't necessarily that we're not taking in enough money, but that we're not sending it out in the right way. It seems more than a little schizophrenic to be running a $760 billion surplus on one side of the government ledger while carrying a $3.7 trillion debt on the other, and while the White House plan takes care of one part of the equation, it sidesteps making the unpopular choices - like means-testing - that would truly make Social Security a viable program. "We will not let [the President] raid...
...After an unnotable opening DJ set by DJ Genaside 2, things started off with "Anti Histamine," a B-side that started off as a remake of Blondie's "Heart of Glass." While the chorus was still recognizably Blondie, the song was transformed into a bruised industrial stomp. Tricky's numerous remakes proved to be the high points of the evening. Among the crowd pleasers was "Black Steel," which turned Public Enemy's classic "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos" into full-bore rock, and, what's more, made white kids from the suburbs dance to it. ...This may be a poor metaphor - a touch on the heavy-handed side - but I think it evokes the sheer strangeness of watching Being John Malkovich, perhaps the oddest romp of a movie I have ever seen. It is a comedy about getting inside other people's heads, and it has the kick of a head trip, which is a clich even though the film is not. This film will polarize people. There will be many people who will hate this film as much as they have ever hated anything, who will break off relationships with dates who dare...
...playing himself with perversity and panache. The film brings him into the plot with characteristic audacity; Cusack discovers a secret door at work that leads directly into the inside of Malkovich's brain. He becomes famous Malkovich for fifteen minutes (get it?), and is then spit out onto the side of the New Jersey Turnpike. It is to the film's credit that this bizarre, supernatural turn of events doesn't jar the logical tone of the movie at all. Getting inside Malkovich's head isn't even the twistiest twist that Being John Malkovich has to offer...
...Street. There is a large container yard (Massport Terminal) on the right and our building is the first building after the container yard. The building is called the Charlestown Commerce Center (there is a ship on the sign) and our door is the last door on the container yard side...
