Burt Young also manages to everyone the limits of the script to portray Jerry as a sensitive, almost childlike, individual, not merely the bumbling sidekick of the fast-talking Alex. As Patti, however, Ann-Margaret is listless; she seems to have given up on trying to inject any energy into here role. Of course, the script never gives her a chance: Patti's character is merely a contrivance of the plot--an extra ingredient thrown into the stew to provide an attractive diversion from the rather bland main course...
...minor characters were as memorable as the major ones. Beaver's sidekick Larry Mondello looked and acted like a pint-size W.C. Fields. Wally's chum Lumpy Rutherford was just that. And of course there was the incomparable Eddie Haskell (Ken Osmond). If Mayfield was Eden, Eddie was the serpent slyly tempting Beaver to bite the apple of mischief. A leering skull dressed in a cardigan sweater, Eddie was smarmy to his elders and sneering to his peers. Decked out in regulation brown-and-beige uniforms and Stetson hats, and sometimes packing pistols, the posse has cut petty theft by 32% since it was started in 1971. Insurance companies, taking...
Cromwell's sidekick Rich grapples his way up the ladder to success. Betraying his friendship to More, he aids malicious attempts to blacken More's reputation with the King. T.H. Culhane gives his character appropriately rat-like and fidgety movements. Rich is not a man: he's a rodent. These roles lend themselves as do most of the others to clear-cut interpretations and motivations. More blocks Cromwell's and Rich's influence with the King. Therefore, More must be removed. And what better way than forcing a conflict between the two strong willed men. Henry and More, in which...
