Your fictional characters are often very similar to you. In the private-eye story "Bored to Death," the main character's name is actually yours. How many of these characters are really you? State schools, especially the upper-tier ones, have been swamped with applications during the last decade. That's a trend that will only be enhanced by higher gas prices and more expensive plane tickets.
