...first step in the six-hour operation was a caesarean delivery, during which the frail Cheyenne wailed as lustily as any other newborn. "I wanted her to keep crying so I knew she was alive," says her mother Alberta. Cheyenne soon grew still, however, as doctors lowered her temperature to less than 63[degrees]F to prevent neurological damage during the critical period after her own heart was removed and before her new, golf ball-size heart was in place. Not until the patient reached this state of suspended animation was it safe to make the surgical swap...
...cheap: Christmas albums. This year's crop of holiday-themed CDs includes musical excursions to Africa, Ireland and Latin America; they won't earn you frequent-flyer miles, but you won't have to deal with that knee-crushing idiot who keeps his seat back for the entire six-hour flight to Buenos Aires. World Christmas (Metro Blue) features artists from a number of time zones, including Cape Verdean vocalist Cesaria Evora. There's also a Celtic Christmas II (Windham Hill); A Brasilian Christmas (Astor Place); and Festival of Light (Six Degrees), a CD for Hanukkah with the Dutch band...
ATLANTA: After months as the prime suspect in the Centenial Olympic Park pipe bombing, former security guard Richard Jewell may be close to exoneration. The FBI appears ready to drop Jewell as a suspect after conducting a six-hour interrogation Sunday. The agency has stopped tailing Jewell and has returned the property taken from his apartment. Although the FBI is not commenting, the bureau did not ask Jewell to take another polygraph test, and returned his gun collection, not something usually done for a major suspect. But simply dropping him from the suspect list is not enough for Jewell...
Today Hollywood so dominates the film landscape that Americans may think they can ignore work from abroad, whether of the 1990s or the 1890s. Cinema Europe: The Other Hollywood, a six-hour TV history of European silent film by the nonpareil team of Kevin Brownlow and David Gill, could upend that notion. Faster than a speeding Twister, more sweeping than Braveheart and, in its insistence on Europe's artistic superiority, as contentious as an Oliver Stone screed, Cinema Europe will pry open the viewer's eyes and mind. It is airing five nights this week on cable's Turner Classic...
...versions of Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion currently in theaters and an Emma on the way (and already in video stores in the tarty guise of Clueless). Next on the list is Pride and Prejudice, Austen's wittiest tribute to hanging out and hooking up. It airs as a six-hour adaptation for TV on the Arts & Entertainment cable network over three consecutive nights beginning this Sunday...
