Beginning with Willie Kirkland as TIME'S sixteenth, John Willie Clark made seventeen (TIME, Oct. 13) and Bill Roan (No. 9 on above list) must be added, making 18. Bill Roan, accused of rape of a white woman, was seized and shot by what newsmen first reported as a sheriff's posse. Later investigation showed that the killers had not been legally deputized, were therefore lynchers...
