In fact, over the past few decades, there has been a massive push in that direction, from the Truth in Lending Act to the "Schumer Box," which gives a one-page summary of credit-card terms in a font size dictated by the Federal Government (it needs to be large enough to catch your attention). Credit-card statements that were a page long in the early 1980s now easily run to 30. That's a lot of information. And yet America's overreliance on consumer debt has happened anyway...
...rebound? Its owner, the London Stock Exchange (LSE), is currently lobbying the government against rules that forbid Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs) from investing in AIM firms above a certain size. The limits have virtually wiped out funding from that source. The Exchange also wants VCTs to be able to pick up shares in the secondary market - something they're currently prevented from doing - not solely through new listings. ...Graduate (PhD) Student Class Size...
Academic departments and committees will see a smaller entering class of PhD students in September 2009. The majority of graduate programs have seen a reduction in the size of their graduate class. At the same time, it should be noted that the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences will provide a modest increase in the PhD stipend for both continuing students as well as those entering in September. ...final meeting of the semester, the Undergraduate Council voted last night to pass the UC Reform Act, which alters its constitution to increase the body’s size from 35 to 51 representatives.
