...four short years ago in a small club in Providence, and the crowd was nothing like this one. They were bigger, older, rougher, more ska-core and punk. The floor then was not violent by Rage Against the Machine standards, catering more to the more gentle colliding of a skank pit. At that time, the opening band was Goldfinger, a light-hearted, prankish, oft-nude precursor to Blink-182. This time, the openers were not nearly as friendly. But the presence of the Suicide Machines did not scare off any of the teenage girls. Rather, the presence of the teenage...
...band kicked off by checking the lyrics from Fatboy Slim's "The Rockafeller Skank," before launching into "Lost in Space," their theme song from the 1999 movie of the same title. It wasn't the most auspicious of choices for an opener: just as that movie disappeared without receiving much of an audience, the manic energy of the lead singer dissipated among the less than 100 people who turned up. Poor publicity might have been to blame for the empty-looking floor: while they were on tour to promote their new album Getting High On Your Own Supply, word about...

If big beat is your thing, though, Brassic Beats USA is definitely worth checking out. Of special note are Indian Ropeman's funky, sitar...
...little gems of the movie are what make it shine. A "Dawson's Creek"-esque subplot gleefully proves more graphic than anything that you'd ever see on the WB, while a fat lawyer, and the town gigolo named Skank, whose promiscuous sexual nature seems to make its way around the tiny town more than once, heat up all the chilly proceedings. A pair of cute little blond kids with potty mouths like you've never heard, the star of the hockey team, who is on trial for shooting a guy from New York City and cameos by some very...
...alpha male and ribs Zack into accepting a bet that he can transform any girl into the prom queen. Ensue about two hours of MTV-esque storytelling: clippy, slick, brisk, but jumpy. Jumpcuts, stylish melanges, smartass parodies of The Real World and even a choreographed dance sequence to Rockafeller Skank--all of this sealed with a kiss...
