...consumption of nonrenewable resources' as well as 'the population explosion'? Does he want population growth in the poor countries to stop so that the poor can lead decent and dignified lives--or so that the rich countries can consume even more? His observation that population growth may endanger the skier and take the fun out of golfing might make a Nigerian wonder how serious Brown's stake in his interest really...
...reference was to White House Chief of Staff Donald Rumsfeld, an ardent skier himself, who had toted along a satchel of papers to Vail. Ford was acutely conscious of some press complaints that he should not be schussing downhill while the nation's economy was slipping in the same direction. He also received unseasonal greetings in the form of the latest Gallup poll. ...Boston physicians base their conclusion on a study of 792 skiers injured at Vermont's Mount Snow during the 1972-73 season. The Harrow-and Oxford-educated sportsman wrote a galaxy of volumes on skiing and such subjects as Communism, which he abhorred, mountaineering, travel and Catholicism, to which he was a zealous convert...
