Another listener was Cynthia Slaughter, 27, a star witness at a similar hearing on cults held by Dole in 1976, who asked if she could testify again but was turned down. Slaughter, baptized into the Disciples of Christ as a youth, became a Moonie in 1975 and was deprogrammed by Patrick, then joined him and others in deprogramming work and giving dozens of anti-Moon speeches across the nation. She also wrote a first-person 1976 article in TIME. Now Slaughter, who would seem to be a highly suggestible sort, has reconverted...
...Crimson's Tim Maximoff, Jack Gauthier, and Steve Schramm all broke Hopkins pool records during the early slaughter. Maximoff followed Harvard's victorious medley relay with his standard-breaker (16:04.48) in the 1,650-yd. freestyle to give the Crimson a 12-4 cushion after two events...
...army fired directly into demonstrators gathered around 24 Esfand Square, near the university, and sniped at them from nearby rooftops for nearly four hours. Khomeini loyalists charged that provocateurs?suspected of being either agents of SAVAK or underground Communists, who have the most to gain from chaos?were inciting violence. Gangs of street toughs burned down a beer factory, a nightclub, and numerous...
Judging from a viewing of the first four plays, however, editing has been judicious, more the neat excision of a few lines here and there than the slaughter of whole scenes, a violence often done to Shakespeare. With some notable exceptions, the performances range from competent to brilliant, and a whole stable of Britain's fine character actors trot through the familiar minor parts: John Gielgud as the righteous John of Gaunt, Celia Johnson as Juliet's nurse and Michael Hordern as her father...
