Those include not only the leaders of the Bosnian Serbs' murderous campaign but also the international community that assembled the victims on the promise of protection, and then stepped aside and allowed a five-day slaughter they had the means of stopping...

...abandonment of common sense is not an exclusively French problem. But it is disturbing to find the French courts affirming Nazi principles of eugenics. The decision savors of Vichy. The court's logic-which is the true deformity-would encourage wholesale prenatal slaughter. It stigmatizes the handicapped and states, as a principle of law, that they never should have been born. Such children are an error that would, in the utopia toward which the idealism of the law aspires, be eliminated, pre-emptively...

...Davis knows taking on Bush and the Republicans through his rich Houston friends is his only shot to stick around in California - when it's all a painful memory, the governor will need a villain besides himself. Nationwide? Putting aside the new tilt that a Republican slaughter in California would do the House, two-thirds of America believe Bush and Big Energy are in bed together, and cooked up this whole crisis as a moneymaking scheme. When he appears this week at the U.N.'s courtroom in the Hague to hear the charges against him - which include crimes against humanity...

Contrast this widespread tolerance, if not acceptance, of the mass slaughter of embryos, even among right-to-lifers, with the huge fuss that antiabortion forces have stirred up over the relatively rare practice they insist on calling partial-birth abortions. This campaign emphasizes how recognizably human end-of-term fetuses are. The explicit or implicit argument is that these physical human qualities are at least part of what makes late-term abortions as morally objectionable as killing a postbirth human being. Either this argument is utterly disingenuous or the corollary must be that destruction of a newly conceived embryo...
