...Mine, 100 miles out. St. Godard's huskies weakened on the home stretch. A dog which had been lurching in the traces for a mile fell over without stumbling, its legs suddenly helpless. After looking it over St. Godard took its strap off and put it on the sled. Through the gigantic white domes of snow, alive in the wind over the wilderness, a figure was catching St. Godard-parka suit, woolen socks and moccasins, a young, bronzed face-Earl Brydges. Brydges lives in Cranberry Portage, St. Godard in The Pas, 55 miles away, so they are neighbors...
