Second place goes to the MDT Advisers pen, which proves that even with the most phallic-shaped objects, size doesn’t matter. The all-silver pen with black writing is even sleeker than the UBS pen. However, the pen receives only runner-up status because it’s too simplistic. There’s no color, there’s no life. A pen has to be like a model and change its look with its function: “You’re cheetah! You’re a lamb! You’re an iguana...

...opportunity and pounced on it as Roddick would a short second serve. Quickly Siegel redefined the product to appeal to a younger crowd. With teenage girls in mind, he and creative director Christophe Lemaire introduced the Lacoste stretch piqué polo, a Lycra-cotton shirt with a sexier, sleeker fit, in 25 vibrant shades. It's Lacoste's best-selling item for women; polos account for 30% of sales in both the men's and women's lines. ...cooling towers, which look like nuclear power plants, spoil the view for kilometers around, and the energy production leaves a sulfuric smell in the air. Still, it is safe compared to nuclear power, hardly pollutes the air, and doesn't consume fossil fuel. A new generation of plants with sleeker design, and chemists' efforts to reduce the odor problem, may help. For Enel, which is among the world leaders in renewable energy, sights are now set beneath the surface for steam generation in such far-flung locations as Bolivia, Tibet, the Philippines and Hawaii. There are few good sites...
