...fewer than nine spacecraft Marsward, and seven have arrived in one piece--an extraordinary success rate for a planet that historically had been a bit of a graveyard of failed missions. Currently, six ships--five American and one European--are at work on Mars, and a handful of others sleep peacefully on the surface or orbit silently above, their missions completed and their systems exhausted. While a lot of the work the spacecraft do is the quiet business of spelunking and air-sampling that thrills mostly space geeks, in recent weeks the news from Mars has been compelling...

...long term, it still is. To stock watchers, the flight to safety--capitulation, in other words--is a good thing, signaling that a market bottom is near. More important, though, says Tom McManus, chief investment officer at Wachovia Securities, is your own comfort level: "If you can't sleep, you have to sell down to the sleeping level--a mode where you are comfortable opening the statement and discussing it with your adviser or a family member...

...Sleep The Glo to Sleep mask is supposed to calm the storm in your head so you can reach the Land of Nod. You activate the mask's glow-in-the-dark pellets by holding it near a light for 30 seconds, and then kick back and "look up" at the floating, glowing disc shapes (you decide, cosmic snowmen or early Atari video game?). The design is based on meditation practices and scientific research that suggests that looking up and focusing on an object lowers brain-wave frequencies. It did work, as long as I kept looking at the glowing...
