...Americans are willing to admit it, especially the huddled and teeming masses trying to reduce. "Thighs, thighs, go away! Give them all to Doris Day!" Puffing, giggling matrons in lumpy leotards attempt toe touches while being taped in a Hollywood studio. The electric-haired, slender cheerleader who puts the women through their paces (and chants) for an installment of his syndicated talk show is Richard Simmons, 33, the leading media star of fitness...

Indeed, weaving an indictment, and ultimately a conviction, out of such slender threads may prove difficult for Fulton County District Attorney Lewis Slaton. Just a few days before he authorized Williams' arrest, Slaton had told reporters that the case was too weak to warrant the move. Why the D.A. changed his mind was the source of much speculation. According to some reports, Slaton's hand had been forced at a meeting he attended at the mansion of Georgia Governor George Busbee two days before Williams' arrest. ...outset, it resembles the original movie: Ennio Morricone's cheerily mellow Muzak score plays as Renato argues with Albin over one of his ("her") musical numbers. Once again, Michel Serrault as Albin, epitomizes all those ancient stereotypes about feminine flightiness and vanity--and once again, he walks the slender line between racy humor and misogyny. Ugo Tognazzi--with the wise restraint he displayed in the first film--underplays Renato, the patient husband who holds on to just a little bit of his machismo. This first scene, while breezy and amusing, lacks energy--a sad omen of feeble scenes to come...

...slender, dark-haired Welshman of considerable charm and directness, Bevan makes no secret of his ideological allegiances. "I'm proud to be called a Marxist," he says. "I do not consider being called a Communist an insult. Most people misunderstand Communism to most people Communism means Stalinism, and I reject that." He scornfully dismisses alarmed charges that he is some sort of subversive. I'm no infiltrator," he says. "We want to bring about an end to the mess that the capitalist system...
