...Boston's insatiable hockey fans it was a slick-and dirty-trick. Bobby Orr, 28, their defenseman without equal in the history of the game, was skating off to become a Chicago Black Hawk. What would make beloved Bobby leave the Bruins? A reported fiveyear, $3 million contract. What would enable all Boston to blink back the tears? The knowledge that Orr's rickety left knee (five operations in the past eight years) allowed him to play only ten games last season. But at week's end Orr checked out of a Toronto hospital, where doctors examined...

Attempts to use real contemporary music in musicals-like Richard Lester's two Beatles movies or Ken Russell's Tommy-have been random. A Chorus Line, hottest ticket on Broadway and destined to be filmed, is just a slick version of 1930s tears-and-tinsel show biz sagas around which production numbers were draped like rented furs. ...works of Dawn Kramer and Judith Chaffee Black are well-crafted, polished statements. Both choreographers steer clear of the dangerous gap between conception and realization haunting Gray's work. Yet neither compacts the poetic suggestiveness of Soll. Kramer's "Notion" is a slick dance to a slick song, picking up its title from Billie Holiday's croon, "If I should take a notion to jump into the ocean, ain't nobody's business if I do." Kramer uses her own slinky way of moving to draw the sinuous lines of Holiday's lament. At one point she cooly trails...
