Most digital cameras have daunting dials and pictographs to "help" you use your camera. Select the wrong icon, and instead of viewing the picture you just took, you shoot a 15-sec. movie of your feet. The Coolpix forgoes dials for a simple slider with only three settings: TAKE PICTURE, VIEW PICTURE and OFF. You can even navigate by touch, ideal for those grizzly-on-the-run situations. All the other functions are on the back, including that 15-sec. video, an unprecedented 12 scene modes (party portrait, night landscape, fireworks show and so on) and a picture-in-picture...
...looks a lot more dangerous than it really is," maintains Alex Coomber, the reigning women's World Cup champion. We'll take her word for it. A skeleton run begins with a 30-m sprint before the slider dives onto the 90-cm sled to hurtle around 15 steeply banked curves of the 1,500-m course. And without any mechanism for steering, sliders can control their descent only by shifting hips and shoulders. They risk losing precious 100ths of a second if they touch...
...digital pictures, is superior to anything else out there for the amateur. How? When you connect your camera to the iMac, archiving pictures happens automatically--the pictures are uploaded and organized by "roll" and archived together as thumbnail images laid out on one endlessly scrolling digital contact sheet. A slider on the side of the contact sheet lets you instantly enlarge and examine hundreds of pictures at a glance, the better to find the one you're hunting for. This works far better than the PC alternative, which would have you manually labeling each picture you archive...
...find yourself engaging in anti-social behavior like, say, cloistering yourself in the Owl with other jocks or humming eggs at other Harvard students at The Game (I’m looking at you, varsity baseball), remember why you are here. Yes, yes, you have a wicked slider. But you also should be engaging your fellow students and sprinkling your personality among the masses of downtrodden CS concentrators. And when you leave, follow your statistical destiny into financial services, make a lot of money and give some of it back to Harvard, where it will be distributed to the rest...
...sleepwalk for eight innings as Arizona staked another unheralded hurler, Miguel Batista, to a two - run lead. Again, Brenly brought in Kim to finish the issue. And once again, the Yankees finished Kim. Catcher Jorge Posada doubled to left. Two pitches later, third baseman Scott Brosius connected with a slider that didn?t slide. He knew immediately that it was gone, raising his arms in triumph. As delirious Yankee fans danced in the stands, several Arizona players ran to the mound to comfort the crushed Kim. Brenly came out and mercifully replaced...
