Both teams played a better offensive than defensive game. Harvard's defense was a little the better, while in offense Brown had a slight advantage. Brown would have scored a touchdown in the first half but for the Freshmen's good stand on the four yard line. The Freshmen lacked team work and the backs failed to put snap into their play. The ends got down the field well and several times recovered the ball on fumbles. Pruyn's punting was good, but on exchanges of kicks he lost through Marshall's poor work in running back the ball...

...offside plays by Exeter, with two costly fumbles, gave the Freshmen their first touchdown. Exeter's line plays, especially a rolling tandem formation on tackles, were effective, and made the score for the first half even, 6 to 6. In the second half Brill and Hutchinson exchanged punts, a slight superiority in the Freshman ends giving Hutchinson an apparent advantage. Finally, with five minutes to play, Exeter renewed her attack on the Freshman line, which was now weakened by substitutes, and scored with ease. Strassburger's attempt at goal hit the cross-bar. After the kickoff, Exeter was held...

...several other long runs on the kick-offs. Another encouraging feature was the work of Putnam, who was tried for the first time this year. He kept his feet well and made many short gains. Ellis and Kernan, who retired from the game soon after the beginning because of slight injuries, did some strong line bucking. Stillman interfered fairly well, but could gain little himself. The frequent failures of Kendall to gain around the ends were caused by loose and slow interference. The work of the men on the right side of the line, Ristine, J. Lawrence and Burnett...

Their full strength was not represented, as Campbell, Lee, Graydon, and Daly did not play because of slight injuries, and Kendall played only a short time. Sawin was not on the field, as his injured knee prevents his doing any work. Hallowell did some kicking and went through the signal practice, but took no part in the actual playing. Burnett came out for the first time this year, and went through a little individual practice. Of the men who played in the game Ellis did the best work. He made steady gains by leaping over the line and by keeping...

...football practice yesterday afternoon was harder and longer than usual. After the usual preliminary work the first and second elevens lined up and played for half an hour without a rest. All the men were exhausted, but only a few injuries, and those slight ones, resulted. The play was not run as a regular game, as the coaches gave the first eleven several extra tries at goals from the field. The work of both elevens was rather loose and there was very little team play. The first, however, was stronger in individual work, kept the ball constantly near the goal...
