...well off." Less predictably, it was also criticized as "inopportune" by Pierre Méhaignerie, a conservative and Chirac ally who heads the Parliament's finance committee. Méhaignerie told the French daily Le Figaro that the government should not "take the risk of being subject to the slogan everything for the rich." Instead he suggested a big injection of funds into a bonus scheme for unemployed people who take jobs. His comments reflect concern among right-wing politicians, and not just in France, that fiddling with inheritance tax will play badly with voters still accustomed to associating...

...Tourism officials have rolled out a new advertising campaign, featuring a new slogan ("COME FALL IN LOVE WITH NEW ORLEANS ALL OVER AGAIN") and homegrown celebrities such as Emeril Lagasse, Wynton Marsalis and actress Patricia Clarkson. But prospective tourists could be forgiven if they're still confused. Almost since the slow recovery began, New Orleans has been sending mixed messages, begging the federal government for more financial help and asking the state to send in the National Guard to help battle a violent crime wave, while assuring skittish tourists and convention planners that the city's historic attractions are intact...

According to the Moscow Human Rights...

...first thing we have to do is drop the Chosen People? marketing bit. It's not working. Not only is it not scaring people off as it was designed to do, but it comes off as sort of arrogant. I'm suggesting we change our official slogan to Just One of the Guys? or the People Who Believe in Most of Your Bible? or even the People Who, If History Is a Guide, Are Not Among God's Favorites.? We'll need to get Karl Rove involved...

...Prime Minister has the near impossible task of repairing the damage wrought by three years' worth of poorly considered policies and half-measures, most of them instituted by U.S. officials and generals who have long since gone home. "I'm tempted to get him a coffee mug with the slogan WORLD'S WORST JOB," a Western diplomat told me in May, when al-Maliki was sworn in. "They've just handed him a toothbrush and told him to clean up the mountain of a mess left by [former U.S. administrator] Paul Bremer, Allawi and [former Prime Minister Ibrahim] al-Jaafari...
