Taft Memorial Foundation offered to erect a monument on the north slope of Capitol Hill-only 600 ft. from the chamber of the U.S. Senate in which Taft served for 14 years. The monument: a slim, shafted marble tower, 100 ft. high, with a carillon of 25 bells and a relief sculpture of the Senator (see cut).
