...made many short gains. Ellis and Kernan, who retired from the game soon after the beginning because of slight injuries, did some strong line bucking. Stillman interfered fairly well, but could gain little himself. The frequent failures of Kendall to gain around the ends were caused by loose and slow interference. The work of the men on the right side of the line, Ristine, J. Lawrence and Burnett, was very aggressive in offense and fairly steady in defense. On the other side of the line, however, Campbell allowed Laurson to make several good gains around him, and Graydon...

...twice held for downs on the ten yard line and again lost a good chance to score by a fumble. Much of this weakness was due to the fact that there were five substitutes on the team, but the work of the regular line men was very slow. They were unable to open holes for the backs and did no effective work on the offense. The whole team was slow in getting down the field on punts, tackled weakly and did not break through sufficiently. The substitute backs could do very little with the poor support given by the forwards...

...Freshman-St. Marks football game at Southboro yesterday afternoon resulted in a tie, neither side scoring. Although inferior in weight, the St. Marks line easily outplayed their opponents. The Freshmen lacked team work and were slow in starting. This was particularly noticeable on end plays when the Freshmen backs were held for big losses. Hutchinson's punting and the defensive work of Dodge and Burgess were the creditable features of the game...

...came out for the first time this year, and went through a little individual practice. Of the men who played in the game Ellis did the best work. He made steady gains by leaping over the line and by keeping his feet after being tackled. He was, however, very slow in interfering for the other backs. Kernan kept his feet better than usual and seemed to put more strength in his running. Although Jaynes was of some value to the interference, his running was very slow and he lost much ground by carrying the ball back on end runs...

Roberts was given a trial at centre, but he was so unsteady that he was soon taken out and Sargent was put in. Although Roberts is very strong, as was shown by his breaking up several plays against the line, he is so slow that he gets in the way of his own backs. Burnett, centre last year, will be out for practice this afternoon. Baldwin played a short time at quarterback, but his fumbling and poor handling of punts weakened the first team greatly. Kendall, Ellis and Kernan bucked the line well, and interfered for each other more successfully...
