Both American crews commanded much attention on their arrival in England. The Harvard eight, which rowed exceptionally well together, combined a slow, even recovery and a hard catch to such an extent that the critics immediately gave them serious consideration. The visit of two American eights did much to establish a more congenial relationship between English and American sports in general, rowing in particular.
