...however, drags us through the long rise and fall of relationships at slow speed. If Kaplan wished to subject us to the real life agony of watching love decay, he came close, but he may have oveextended his dramatic resources. Act Two is largely humorless, and coming after the sharp first act makes the play seem far too long--it might do so even by itself. Though the acting does not falter, it is boring to watch, because it has less to convey. The character transitions are a little shaky as well. The ending is not so much a resolution...
...must thank them for taking this heavy-handed horror story of Sartre's and making it surprisingly palatable. Embellishing the playwright's original script, Bobis and Onbargi have experimented with a mime troupe of five who periodically act out the memories of the three main characters in stylized slow motion. It's kitschy, but it works. The set, also designed by Onbargi, creates a properly sadistic and spartan backdrop. Hell's flames simply cannot compare to the three tacky couches to which the characters are relegated, and the spikes attached to the wall frames seem appropriately frightening...
...equality make. Renovations fail to address the problems which Quad residents have to deal with every day. The big one is distance. No one enjoys waking up 15 minutes early in order to brave a long walk in sub-freezing weather. Inexpensive daisy wheel printers (the daisy wheel is the typing element which contains all the printer's letters and characters) print at about 10 columns per second (CPS), or about one double spaced page in three minutes. The fastest, and considerably more expensive, prints at about 55 CPS, or a page every 45 seconds...
...visual stimuli of the Cote d'Azur but against the heritage of the 19th century, whose former citizen he was. Its masters speak both to and from his Nicois canvases. The hushed green density of Large Landscape, Mont Alban, 1918, is an amalgam of Courbet and Corot, though the slow, wristy drawing that drives the eye round the curve of the road and follows the slant of the windblown pines is entirely Matisse's own. The modulation of silvery grays (jug of water, belly of sole) with a few touches of red within the ambient - darkness of Still Life, Fish...
