With more than 70 men reporting for the first crew practice of the year from all the classes of the University, Head Coach Haines looks forward to a successful season. This number of men, although far smaller than that of previous years, is, nevertheless, encouraging when so few of the experienced men are available. More men are still needed, however, to make the fall season and later the spring season completely successful. The Freshman class in particular should come out with more candidates. Only 30 reported yesterday, of which number about one-third were inexperienced men. The Freshman crew...
Chairman Landau then introduced President Lowell, who noted the advantages which the small number of students would bring to each man: the relations between the professors and students will be much more intimate, smaller classes will permit more men to join in discussions, and wil enable instructors to give more time to each Individual. What it misses in numbers, it surely must have in collective capacity. There is always more potentiality in Freshmen than in the other groups of undergraduates. We not only expect but we are sure that 1921 will not disappoint the hope of all Harvard men--a hope that it may shed more honor on its guide than all preceding classes...
Though the present enrolment of the Institute of Technology is about ten per cent smaller than a year ago, never have so many men been using the college buildings. Counting the 1670 registered as Tech. students and the many others enrolled in the various war schools, more then 3000 men are taking advantage of the Institute's opportunity...
