...obese, simple-minded woman abused by both her husband and a wealthy neighbor. Dorothy Brodesser's deeply moving performance as Williams heroine alone is worth the price of admission. Constantly made up in her Sunday best, she haunts the sparsely dressed stage clutching her most expensive handbag and making small talk so joyfully that the audience, knowing the harsh realities Flora is hiding, cannot help but shiver. At times, her simple charm can become aggravating. Twenty-Seven Wagons is not one of Williams' greatest short plays. As in many of his shorter works, he tends to overstate his point...

When no one claimed responsibility, band mom Alice "Mom" Tondel, a small lady who was in her sixties, stepped out and shouted "I am in charge!" The police officer made an about face, sat down on the curb behind his car, and started laughing. "Go, get out of here," he shooed them through tears...

Examining the small font under the very last photograph in the folder, I noticed the name "Cipriani Kremer Design," an elite Boston advertising firm. Undoubtedly a fancy copy-writing firm supplied the text, which is predictably self-aggrandizing. From my experience working in the Internet design industry, I can estimate that the professional design, photography and copy-writing services for a project of this size would cost tens of thousands of dollars. Add the time library administrators spent on the project, and the costs of printing, delivering, and stuffing each of the 6,000-plus folders with 17 separate pamphlets...

...Trudeau has also captured Bill Clinton as a waffle dripping with maple syrup, combining in one small image both the president's indecisiveness and his passion for food, and portrayed Vice President Al Gore '69 as a young child sitting on the lap of his Senator father, waiting to be spoon-fed the presidency. This year, though, the images will be harder to make new. The current presidential race is shaping up as the embodiment of the old proverb: history the first time is tragedy but when repeated is farce...
