History can repeat the story of the South African Kaffirs and if Haile Selassie expects his affairs to return status quo ante after the shooting dies down he is likely to receive a smart rap on the "kisser." Indeed it would appear that the Newshawk Negus had better send his "obit" to the linotyper for the coin of fate may be tails on both sides...

...marvel is that Africa's unique Museum of Peoples has produced a businessman-with high-pressure publicity, compelling sales talk, the morals of a patent medicine advertisement, a grasp of both savage and diplomatic mentality, and finally with plenty of what Hollywood calls IT. The Emperor was "too smart" only once in 1935, when he tried by granting the Rickett Concession to Standard Oil to embroil the U. S. directly in Ethiopia's defense. In His Majesty's favorite phrase the entire situation is still "subject to negotiation...

Digging of the Gauley Bridge tunnel ended in 1932. By that time about 500 silicosis deaths had spread terror throughout the territory. ...Smart Publishers Farrar & Rinehart have lined up a dozen-odd professional writers, given them carte blanche to be skittish. Publisher Alan Rinehart, only non-professional contributor, skits creditably on the perils of childbirth from the husband's viewpoint. Supreme-seller Hervey Allen ponderously parodies himself in a syllabus of an even bigger novel than Anthony Adverse. Author Rex Stout blows the gaff on how to water down love stories for a fiction editor. Newcomer Ed Bell (Fish on the Steeple) sticks a plum in the pudding, in the form of a small-town Southern story. Arthur Kober writes...
