This was my third trip to a New York cave, but many of the others were beginners. I could hear them twisting through the Gunbarrel behind me, struggling even more than I had. The tube is just wide enough to squeeze into and is perfectly smooth, so you can't use the walls for leverage. There's a legend that some skinny greased marvel once slipped through in a record 23 seconds, but I was lucky to have made it in under ten minutes. My coveralls were ripped and splattered with mud; but then, that was all supposed...
Canine Greeters. In Australia, a fellow Texan-U.S. Ambassador Edward ("Big Ed") Clark-had taken pains to assure a smooth visit for the Johnsons and had a special 7-ft. bed installed for the boss. The Aussies did the rest. "He's a good bloke!" cried one old lady, and Lyndon felt that way about the blokes who lined the roads. All this requires an awfully large chunk of willing suspension of disbelief. If Leonard's weltanschauung is "smooth, round and beautifully spherical" why can't he and the "well-rounded" ball-bearings live in peace...
...third major candidate, Thomas B. Finan, is a straight-shooting, balding Baltimorian of the smooth, conservative style that has dominated Maryland politics for decades. He is presently state attorney general and has also served as secretary of state for Maryland. Finan was machine through and through, and based his entire campaign on defending the Tawes Administration...
