...suppose, a premise, of sorts, but as writer-director Adam Brooks's Definitely, Maybe galumphs along, it is not a particularly romantic or comedic one. Of them all - Hayes included - only Fisher's character has real spunk, although Kevin Kline (unbilled but not uncredited) contributes some snappish cynicism as a priapic professor and big thinker. Fisher has most of the few good lines the movie offers. She's a bit of an enigma, too. How can such an obviously bright young woman be so endlessly feckless...
...even more frustrating if that business involves the public sector and government employees. The working day is extremely short - just four hours in some agencies - and if you are dealing with a male employee then he is most likely to be in a snappish, intolerant mood brought on by lack of tea, cigarettes and sleep. Although Frederick is the agent for much of “Pelican’s” exposition, Shafrin also brings a much-needed levity to the show, with frequent paranoid references...
...hear the beep, and I love it." But she has noticed some drawbacks and even some side effects: impatience, irritability and (gasp) some inefficiency. "Sometimes when e-mail goes down, I'm actually more productive, because I can concentrate on something," she says. She finds herself angry and snappish when callers make poor use of her endless availability. Although she feels anxious when her In box is empty, she feels no better when it's full: "When I wake up in the morning and have 15 e-mails, I get a nervous stomach...
