...favorite SNL regular Tim Meadows brings Leon Phelps to the big screen in all of his pimping glory, complete with afro, disco threads, and that ridiculous lisp. With a much longer time slot to play with, the filmmakers really got a chance to flesh out the details of Leon's womanizing world, from the love candles, Kama Sutra posters, and bottle of Courvoisier that grace his radio booth when he's on the air, to his bachelor pad-a boat house that he fittingly calls his "Skank-tuary." And of course, we get to hear all the best Leon-isms...

...Meadows flashes the comedic brilliance that has endered him to the hearts of SNL fans everywhere. In his first lead role in a feature film, he successfully broadens the scope of a fundamentally shallow character, adding extra layers of innocence and generosity-a swinger with a heart of gold. At the same time, he recognizes the limitations of the character and doesn't try to do too much. After all, Leon Phelps was meant to be a guy we can all laugh...

...Ahem. In the end, whether Bush came across a bit floundering was not entirely the point. The real battle tonight was between Al Gore and the parody of Al Gore on "Saturday Night Live" last weekend. Gore certainly made the SNL Gore disappear last night, but he may have made himself disappear in the process. And sure enough, this time around, he lost the instant audience polls and the pundit consensus after the debate.
