Ground was broken yesterday for the new Widener Memorial Library, the first sod being turned by George D. Widener, of Philadelphia, the brother of Harry Elkins Widener '07, in whose memory the Library is being built. Mrs. George D. Widener, who is giving the building, was unable to be present to lift the first spadeful of earth herself. The ceremony was of the simplest sort, with no formal address of any kind.
