...Jones sharply rejected any suggestion that evolution was somehow at odds with religion. ?Both defendants and many of the leading proponents of ID make a bedrock assumption that is utterly false,? he wrote. ?Their presupposition is that evolutionary theory is antithetical to a belief in the existence of a supreme being and to religion in general. Repeatedly in this trial, plaintiff?s scientific experts testified that the theory of evolution represents good science, is overwhelmingly accepted by the scientific community, and that it in no way conflicts with, nor does it deny, the existence of a divine creator...

...Year. Thanks for keeping Time a leader. Jim Tracy Denver, Colorado, U.S. I was a bit unnerved by your referring to Snuppy as an invention. The cloning technique is remarkable, without a doubt, but it is wrong to classify a cloned creature as an invention. Doing so somehow implies that a clone is different and inferior to other living creatures merely because the method of creation was changed. A clone is just another member of its species. Sidey brought the best of what the U.S. stands for to readers. We shall miss him. DERICK BINGHAM Belfast, Northern Ireland...

...Charles a little much? Damn straight. The makers of this boxed set exercise no restraint, but they do include some fascinating stuff. Skip the well-worn hits, and go right to the song sketches to hear how Charles felt his way toward redefining American pop music. And if you somehow make it to disc eight, the reward is a recording of the legendary moment when record executive Ahmet Ertegun sang a bizarre-- but not at all bad-- version of What'd I Say to convince Charles of the song's potential...

...persons who identified themselves as agents of the Department of Homeland Security. He also told Pontbriand that he had been singled out because of his request for the Little Red Book, Pontbriand said. “Apparently, he was seeking out that particular book, the authorized version, and somehow he triggered the visitation,” Pontbriand said, adding that the student also indicated that there may have been other people who experienced similar investigations. Pontbriand declined to comment further on the specifics of the incident in order to protect the student’s anonymity, who, according to Pontbriand...
