...appeared in the Yale papers from time to time since the freshman game, attributing all the noise and uproar in New Haven on the evening of the day on which the game took place to our freshmen. The last issue of the Courant, however, contained an editorial excusing them somewhat. This editorial is as follows : "We think the Lit's strictures in regard to the conduct of the Harvard freshmen, two weeks ago, a trifle uncalled for. ...result of the game with Princeton Saturday was somewhat of the nature of a surprise. While the college did not hope for anything brilliant from a nine partially handicapped by the loss of one of the best players, it did not expect such poor playing as that done by our nine. Although the general wretchedness of the fielding was redeemed by some brilliant plays, still the general character of the game was very disappointing. ...large number of spectators witnessed the sports on Jarvis field yesterday. The unfavorable weather interfered somewhat with the pleasure of the meeting. The programme opened at 4 o'clock, with the mile walk. Herrick, '82, Baxter, '83, and Mills, '85, were the contestants. Blodgett, '84, was entered for the event, but owing to lameness was unable to compete, although he walked over the course. Herrick took the lead at the start and held it to the finish. At the end of the first lap his lead amounted to 20 yards. At the finish he was fully three-fourths...
