Like many historic happenings, Parnell's rise & fall contain potentialities of majestic drama. This picture explains Willie's suit for divorce as a somewhat transparent device to blackmail Parnell into giving him a political job. It shows Parnell dying of a stroke almost immediately after his Party has deserted him and before his marriage to Katie. It is at its best in earlier sequences showing Parnell speaking in Parliament at the time of the trial arising from the Phoenix Park case. Best bit part: Brandon Tynan, Dublin-born actor, who got 27 curtain calls the night...

Shrewdest of all were the advertising directors of United Kingdom Tobacco Co., makers of "Grey's" cigarets, a somewhat swank but inexpensive brand. In 48 hours London newspapers appeared with quarter and half-page advertisements flaunting largely the company's new slogan: "The Fleet is All Lit Up!" And in small type below the explanation: "They're smoking Grey's cigarets." Abashed Commander Woodrooffe explained: "I was so overcome by the occasion that I burst into tears and found I could say no more." To be sure that announcers would not be overcome with emotion...

Also noticeable is the fact that the order in which the Houses placed in these final standings is the same order in which the crews finished; perhaps a new tradition will arise: "As the crew goes...

...roads would be safer without them. At 8 p. m. Thursday evening last week the huge pile of jalopies was touched off while firemen and some 25,000 others looked on. It made a magnificent bonfire, but its value as a publicity stunt was slightly vitiated by a somewhat larger blaze half an hour earlier at Lakehurst...

Originally set up to handle German Reparations, the B.I.S. is now in somewhat the same category as the League of Nations—a noble relic. It makes a little money out of various banking operations, including the settlement of international postal balances, serves as a sounding board for collective European banking thought, issues astonishingly good reports, largely written by its Swedish economic adviser, Per Jacobsson. In last week's report Per Jacobsson was disturbed not only by gold but by armaments...
