Some proud cell phone owners list their reasons for being owners of phones. John L. Lester '99 states somewhat dubiously, "This way I don't miss calls from other chicks while I'm out on dates." Waqaas S. Fahmawi '99 says, "I have found it to be a great asset to my social capital." Does everyone have phones just to keep social lives swinging? Or is it just that the Tamagotchi, "the original virtual reality pet," is passe, and now people are lining up for more pocket-sized...

...Anti-Social Behavior" (Opinion, Nov. 4): I was struck by Jonathan Jacoby's comment "many at Harvard...are (mis)guided in their so called career pursuits by the primary intension of selfishly accumulating inordinate wealth." This new and somewhat optimistic energy has its value, but why ditch the smoldering resentment that so many fans identified with? Rage has never been what this band is about, but it's not impossible to claim that Cake has settled down a little with this album...

...when Schine returns to the cold, somewhat scientific pseudo-Darwinian logic that she falters. There is an insultingly blatant parallel between Darwin's theory of evolution and the evolution of Jane's friendships and identity. There is no mystery about this self-explanatory connection, but at last Schine introduces a secret family feud. However, the writing again makes any interest vanish. Throughout the novel, the rules of algebra and syllogism appear, "If A=(?) and B=(?), then all one has to prove is (?)." The logic is straightforward, giving the reader time for their own conclusions: if chapter 1=(heavy blinking...
