This hypothetical song title may sound crass, but don't be surprised if it's the next hit for country star Brian Prout, of the band Diamond Rio, Congresswoman MARY BONO's new boyfriend. For a person with no prior political experience, Bono has generated some of D.C.'s juiciest headlines. Her latest jaw dropper comes from an interview she granted political rag TV Guide, in which she claims her late husband's addiction to prescription pain killers...

...Charlie Brown before moving to the U.S., where he became a chameleonlike star on SCTV and Saturday Night Live. He's had a respectable movie career as well, but his occasional stage work--notably in the underrated 1993 musical The Goodbye Girl--showed off the kind of effortless song-and-dance talent that in another era would have made him a huge Broadway star. Beck's voice on this album sounds worn and weary, as if he's seen it all and seen enough. Everything seems disposed or disposable; his song titles include Cancelled Check, Lazy Flies and Dead Melodies. Yet, calmed by his voice, we lean closer, listen closely. Beck's music does not overwhelm his musings...
