...Sonic Jigsaw," as the name might suggest, is just the type of adventurous project the OFA loves to fund; it received one of the largest grants, $500. Coordinated by the student group EMBRYO (Experimental Music BRing Your Own)," Sonic Jigsaw" is an interactive exhibit in which participants will become "noise artists," as they play with various experimental disguised sounds. Anders' one good idea was to paper the movie with music--not from the period, but newly written by '60s veterans (Burt Bacharach, Joni Mitchell and, oddly, Goffin himself) and a few younger ringers (Elvis Costello, Los Lobos, Sonic Youth) working in the old spirit. These fine tunes recall what was best about that era and point to what this movie should have been. Radio...

The songs on the CD flail this way and that, screamingly loud on the vocal-chord-stripping song Lukin, restrained and dreamy on the ballad Off He Goes and fuzzily philosophical on the mostly laid-back number Present Tense. ...performers as Beck, Tricky and Rage Against the Machine, Sublime draws confidently on the group's new CD from both alternative rock and avant-garde hip-hop, creating a sound that is sharp and soulful. The band also tosses reggae and ska (a faster, jerkier reggae precursor) into the sonic mix, resulting in songs that are hard to categorize and harder still to resist. While much of today's pop wallows in recycled schlock rock from the '70s (Kiss) and rehashed alternative rock from last week (just turn on the radio), Sublime offers up a sound that is fresh...
