...watched a demonstration of warplanes beingcatapulted off the deck and screeching into thesky. A thunderous sonic boom from an F-14 caughthim by surprise, and Bush's knees buckled and heducked. He recovered quickly with a sheepish grinand a funny face for cameras...
...notoriously imperious impresario. "When I work on a show," he says, "I'm a wasp. You know how a wasp buzzes around and keeps you on your toes and worries about everything. There's a sound in the air that keeps everything moving." At times the buzz becomes a sonic boom. Otherwise, the new Rank and File's hybrid of nasal vocals and buzzsaw guitars sound like uniform drone. Rank and File may catapult the band to MTV stardom (and Rhino Records out from the novelty and oldies bins in record stores), but such success will...
...Quentin"--Boo-Boo is a worthwhile debut. Nothing on this disk is as immediately startling as Volcano Suns' "White Elephant," but then again this EP is a lot easier to listen to than the Suns' All Night Lotus Party. For those who like musical roots mixed in with sonic radicalism, Boo-Boo by Big Dipper is Boston's next big thing...
