Clapton Chronicles seems to be made for just such occasions. This 14-track album combines some of Eric Clapton's best from the past two decades, including the acoustic-strummers "Change the World," "Tears in Heaven," "My Father's Eyes" and "Layla" and throws in two more soundtrack tunes, "Blue Eyes Blue" (Runaway Bride) and "Get Lost" (The Story of Us). Yet, surprisingly, nothing from From the Cradle, Clapton's 1994 hit blues cover album is included. And, like any self-respecting teensploitation movie, the soundtrack is righteous--a noble dance version of Backstreet Boys "I Want it that Way" actually steals the show at several key party scenes. But--alas! never fear!--like any movie featuring a song by Britney Spears--you already know the ending. We all know the ending. And that is the beauty...
...soundtrack for the first of the Star Wars prequels is a more subdued work than its predecessors but is nevertheless a fun and interesting piece of music. It is one of the few essentials of Star Wars collecting, and while it may be somewhat derivative, it is also creatively inspiring and interesting. John Williams creates some of the best film soundtracks today, and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is one of them...
