...rise and fall of Troy Duffy, a Bostonian bartender who makes an astonishing, life-changing deal with Miramax films. Miramax is so impressed with Troy’s screenplay, The Boondock Saints, that it offers Troy the chance to direct the film with a huge budget and create its soundtrack using music performed by his band. Sitting on top of the world, Troy manages to commit blunder after blunder, mishandling negotiations and alienating his supporters. He eventually loses his deal with Miramax and becomes a pariah in Hollywood...
Similarly, the music casts a fresh light on the old story. The score evokes feelings of instability and duress, allowing the psychological concerns of the narrative to come to the forefront. This is far from a standard background soundtrack: the haunting, reverberating strings, ethereal chanting and, particularly, the primordial-sounding percussion are immediate and affecting, speaking just as eloquently as the dialogue...

The even wackier minor characters that swear like sailors and smoke like particularly industrious chimneys. Bridget falling flat on her face, a lot. Further plundering of the Aretha Franklin catalog. And, of course, that stalwart of the rom-com genre, Hugh Grant, walking on eggshells and flopping his fringe...
