...treatment of women by the ultra-extremist authorities of Afghanistan's Taliban [WORLD, Oct. 13] is among the worst human rights abuses of the century. The U.S. must take some of the blame. We supported the Afghan "freedom fighters" in their war against the Soviet Union.
