Ever since English methods were first applied at Harvard, rigorous training has been a permanent feature in rowing. ...Spaeth, Princeton's crew coach; has been carrying on extensive experiments the past week with new sets of oars and a new make of shell. A departure from the usual custom has been made in securing the new sweeps, as Dr. Spaeth wishes to experiment with 7 1-2 pound oars instead of the regular 8 pound ones.
