THERE are several new men training to spar at the winter meeting...
...strongly advise a change in the rules of the Athletic Association, so far as sparring is concerned. If three men have entered any weight (as was the case on the first Saturday of the Winter Meeting), the winner of the first bout is obliged to spar with a man who is fresh and vigorous, which fact gives the latter a great superiority over the former. Thomsen outweighed his opponent by nearly fifteen pounds, and this gave him a decided advantage at first; but in the last part of the bout he became demoralized, and Heilbron got in so many telling hits that the judges were unable to decide as to the respective merits of the men, and ordered them to spar another round.
