...with an unruly mob is too busy to check his press card. The sanctimoniousness of McCarthy and Ribicoff, particularly, was too obvious. The police force in Chicago was the only thing that made it possible for McCarthy's heart to bleed in comparative privacy and for Ribicoff to speak of "police brutality" and "Gestapo tactics" without violent interruption. As a matter of fact, what legislation have these two, and any others of like voice, drafted or proposed during their careers to alleviate or eliminate any of the causes of our current social unrest? ...policemen have been wounded by Negro guerrillas in Seattle and Peoria, Ill., and lesser sniping skirmishes have been reported in a dozen other cities. But this has apparently been the work of a handful of fanatics, and they have failed to rally much of a following. While the extremists speak loudly, and often gain the headlines, they do not come near to representing the peaceful and constructive majority of the rapidly changing American Negro community...

At that point, the vampires with lines prerecord the dialogue: actors can't speak clearly with false fangs in their mouths. Later the lines are put onto the video tape. In the afternoon come makeup sessions, the dress rehearsal, and then the actual taping of the show that will be aired the following week. Since editing the tape is expensive, most fluffs are left in. One exception: Joan...
