...August, a wisp of flame suddenly appeared in the Arctic twilight over the Barents Sea, bathing the low clouds over the Norwegian port of Hammerfest in a spectral orange glow. With a tremendous roar, the flame bloomed over the windswept ocean and craggy gray rocks, competing for an instant with the Arctic summer's never-setting sun. The first flare-off of natural gas from the Snohvit (Snow White in Norwegian) gas field, some 90 miles (145 km) offshore, was a beacon of promise: After 25 years of false starts, planning and construction, the first Arctic industrial...

...fair number of major auto dealers support his party of choice. Romney was able to purchase (at $35 per entrance ticket) the votes of Kruse and 4,515 others-and it was the prospect of the former Massachusetts Governor's financial firepower that scared Giuliani, McCain and the spectral Fred Thompson away from the event. ...Despite a range of photographic practice, from photojournalism to portraiture, curator Crombie brings together a remarkably coherent vision. Haunting the show are spectral presences, from the dapperly besuited Aboriginal gent of the '50s that Brenda L. Croft retrieved from her late father's shoebox of slides, and Darren Siwes' ghostly self-portrait projected onto a Henson-like night-time landscape, to vacated urban spaces in which we are left to trace subtle signs of life-whether it be in a ray of sunlight retreating from Annie Hogan's Brisbane rental house, or the silvery spray of Scott Redford's Gold...

That research later continued at Harvard. Cornwell gave the center a forensic device, called a video spectral comparator, that allows scholars to compare handwriting and paper watermarks. She found that the paper of three letters written by Sickerts has the same watermarks and measurements as paper Jack the Ripper used for some of his letters. She said that only 24 sheets of this type of paper exist...
