Malcolm. The quest for a father, the spectral son, the possessive bitch-mother, the world as supreme castrater -these are themes, roles and patterns that have obsessed Edward Albee from the days of The Sandbox and The American Dream to Virginia Woolf and Tiny Alice. In this adaptation of James Purdy's novel Malcolm, he finds all his own vintage wines in another man's cellar. The trouble is that these wine bottles are now empty, and the wind whistles over them all evening with a low, monotonous, deadly moan...

...were torn loose and wrecked. From the one camera left, Princeton Astronomer Donald Morton was able to recover only three frames of exposed film -and two of those were unusable. But that final frame turned the whole experiment into a resounding success. Last week, after careful analysis of the spectral lines recorded on his film, Morton was able to offer exciting new evidence toward the solution of an old astronomical enigma: Why are there so many white dwarf stars in the sky when there have been so few of the supernova explosions that are believed to produce them...

...Maitland's tormented hallucination, and the play's device, that he is in a spectral dock on trial on a self-accusing charge-that his life has become an obscenity. The inner motion of this drama is the ritual of exorcism; Maitland wants to banish the voracious demons of his mind and conscience. But his witnesses are all mirror images of his decay, shadowy chroniclers of loss, rejection, betrayal and defeat. His upbraided, long-suffering clerks are walking legal briefs drawn up against Maitland's corrosive contempt for his work. His wife is Maitland's petition...

...words about anyone else. He's not. Schlesinger's Lyndon Johnson is unhappy at his treatment by Kennedy aides, and opposed to administration tactics on Vietnam, the civil rights bill, and the wheat sale to Russia. "He seemed to have faded astonishingly into the background and appeared almost a spectral presence at meetings in the Cabinet Room." His Chester Bowles "dissipated his authority by diffusing his energy." His Nehru is a tired, tedious old man. There are also a surprising number of critical passages about Kennedy, some of them of un-expected bluntness...

Proving Alfvén's assumption would be just as difficult as disproving it. Spectral lines emitted from antimatter stars or galaxies would be of the same wave length as radiation from their material counterparts, making them useless for identifying distant antimatter. On the other hand, one unmistakable characteristic of matter and antimatter is that whenever the two meet they annihilate each other. This leads Alfvén to concede that two bodies in the solar system-the moon and the sun-are indisputedly composed of matter. There was no annihilatory reaction when Soviet and U.S. rockets...
