...ball but covers closely and shows good head-work. His height and weight often give him a considerable advantage over his opponent, but in Van Vleck, the Yale centre, he will have an exceptionally fast man to contend with. The forwards, Allen and Currie, are rather light, but their speed and agility more than offset their lack of weight. Currie is the steadier player and is the best foul-shooter on the team; Allen is erratic, although his work is often very brilliant...
...University hockey squad practiced yesterday afternoon on Hill Pond, Arlington. A 50-minute scrimmage was played in which the University team was defeated by the second team, the score being 3 to 1. The play of the University team was ragged and without speed. The second, on the other hand, showed good team work and its attack was very strong, its chief weakness being in accurate shooting. Pell played his usual good game and Irving did the best work for the second team...
...University hockey team won its first game of the intercollegiate series last Saturday evening by defeating Columbia at the St. Nicholas Rink, by the score of 14 to 1. Before the season is over he should develop into a strong centre. The chief weakness of the forwards is their extremely erratic shooting. Allen passes well and Currie's floor work is good, but both miss easy shoots much too frequently...
...second practice of the University basketball squad last night was very encouraging, and showed that the team this year will make up in speed what it lacks in weight. The passing and shooting of the first team was both swift and accurate, and this second team was covered so well that it was not able to score. After a short preliminary practice for development of speed, the two team lined up for a short scrimmage. The first team was handicapped by the absence of Captain I. S. Broun and E. S. Allen, who were unable to be present through illness...
