...tale of a sick old lady; her garden, which withers because she can't tend it; and a lost toy, a little metal man, that she misplaced years ago. This odd story is entomologically incorrect, no doubt, because it also deals with good bugs, bad bugs and a villainous spider queen who must be killed by the heroes--mysterious green leaf men. What make Joyce's book exceptional are his vivid paintings of a scary, moonlit tree climb to summon the leaf men. The trek is undertaken by a platoon of doodlebugs, those little roly-poly fellows who curl...
...early May, however, party leaders were losing patience with Dole, who seemed to be getting trapped in a legislative spider web of the Democrats' making. Internal Republican polls showed independents tilting dangerously Democratic (only 28% of registered independents said they backed Dole in a recent TIME/CNN poll). Even voters who were disappointed with Clinton were not moving to Dole but shifting to undecided. In a series of private meetings and at various dinners, Republican National Committee chairman Haley Barbour declared that Dole had to focus on the presidential campaign "to the exclusion of all else," a phrase he repeated...

Toni Kukoc, the Bulls have an odd assortment of projects and castoffs. Stan Albeck, a Nets assistant coach and former Bulls head coach, says, "Back in November, one of our broadcasters, Mike O'Koren, told me he thought the Bulls could...
...story then lurches picaresquely amid near catastrophes. Selick gives this all a bit more focus by making sure the early events, including the rhinoceros, resonate throughout the film. He also gives James (winningly played by Paul Terry) a mission: to find his dream city, a Deco-delicious Manhattan. Spider (voiced by Susan Sarandon) here has the melancholy hauteur of a Garbo femme fatale; and the Centipede, obnoxious in the book, is now a Leo Gorcey type (voiced by Richard Dreyfuss), who gets a shot at redemption by fighting a shipful of skeleton pirates straight out of Ray Harryhausen...
