...stratosphere is changing. Among other things, scientists studying the AO have connected sudden warmings of the stratosphere to outbreaks of wintry weather in Europe and the U.S. Somehow, scientists think, these spikes in stratospheric temperatures weaken the winds that swirl around the Arctic, thereby allowing frigid air to spill out of polar regions and envelop cities like Boston and New York, Berlin and Paris in teeth-chattering cold. Conversely, when stratospheric temperatures cool, strong winds at the surface discourage cold air from dipping so far south. Already, the AO's clear connection to the stratosphere is giving weather forecasters...

That is all good stuff, for now. But over the long haul, a banana-republic dollar could lead to inflation, higher interest rates and a recession likely to spill around the planet. In the past, the strong dollar allowed the U.S. government to borrow cheaply and attract investment in the safest currency on the globe. That helped finance the budget deficit, kept interest rates low and also allowed Americans, as individuals and collectively through their government, to spend way beyond their means. ...movie’s simple pleasures are easily cancelled out by, quite possibly, the most egregious use of island music in recent cinematic history. As the filmmakers begin to lose any faith in their story, cleavage seems to spill out of every frame. And should there be an appropriate pause for character development, audiences can count on meaningless dialogue to provoke unintended laughs...
